37.Fly Guy Meets Fly Girl by Tedd Arnold

This book is hilarious!! Emma picked this out for one of her free books at the library--right up Emma's alley. But Lily picked it out for bedtime story. Flies aren't really my thing so I wasn't too excited. But I was completely wrong. The pictures are hilarious; the story is funny; and I loved it. I would highly recommend it, especially for beginning readers. I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series.

84. Best Loved Bedtime Stories: The Ugly Duckling and Other Stories by Dalmatian Press

This is another of Lily's picks for bedtime stories. Like I've said before, she seems to really like collections of stories. This has quite a few of your well-known bedtime stories, like The Ugly Duckling, Puss in Boots, and The Little Tin Soldier. But then about the second half of the book, there are a whole collection of related stories about a bunch of little animals that live in a forest with some gnomes and giants who are all friendly. I really like these little tales. They remind me of the Beatrix Potter books, but shorter. The illustrations in the whole collection are really great. And the thing I like best is that the stories are broken down into divisions that are just right for Lily's age. The stories tend to be between 2-10 pages with about a paragraph per page. Perfect! She loved this book and I really enjoyed reading it to her.

71. Disney Nursery Rhymes & Fairy Tales

I know some people hate that Disney takes stories and makes them their own. I don't really see it as any different than fractured fairy tales. And my girls love the pictures and stories. Daisylocks and the Three Bears seems to be their favorite. This is Lily's bedtime choice. She likes books that have groups of stories; they're easier not to lose I think. I like them too because the stories are a good length for Lily. I think it is a good collection with a lot of classic stories and nursery rhymes. I liked it.

62. 20th Century Children's Book Treasury

Lily likes to read picture book or story collections as her bedtime stories. I think it is easier to keep track of the one big book, instead of a bunch of little books. And she likes to see what is coming up next and to put the bookmark in each time. This is a great collection. It has a bunch of award-winning picture books condensed into one big book: stories like Goodnight Moon, Lilly's Purple Purse and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. I think you might lose some of the pictures but it is still good. Lily liked all the different books and I thought it was a great way to read bedtime stories. Fortunately for us, we own a lot of collections like this so it is now on to the next one.

88. The Mitford Snowmen: A Christmas Story by Jan Karon

This is a cute little Christmas short story based on Jan Karon's Mitford series. If you haven't read any of this series, it might be worth your while to try it out. Jan Karon is a great Christian writer. The main character in the series, Father Tim, is an episcopalien (I think) priest. The stories are set in a little North Carolina (again I think, I haven't read them in a while) town, very small town South. This little book was made as a gift book and has some really cute snowmen pictures in it. Hallmark also did a series of snowmen ornaments based on this book. The book itself tells the story of a spontaneous snowman building contest that takes place on Mitford's main street. It is very cute.

77. Pingo by Brandon Mull

This is a little picture book by the author of Fablehaven and The Candy Shop War. The girls and I have heard Brandon Mull speak several times and the last time he was REALLY excited about this book. The book asks the question, "What happens when your imaginary friend becomes your imaginary enemy?" His little speech piqued my curiosity so I grabbed it at the library. It has really cute pictures and a pretty good story. I'm pretty sure little kids will love it--mine thought it was good.
